Not Reconciled is based on the novel The Two Sacraments, in which the German writer Heinrich Böll looks back at fifty years of German history, from 1910 to the post-war economic miracle. "The history of a people who missed their revolution (in 1849) and did not manage to escape from Fascism (liberation came from outside)," said Jean-Marie Straub, "and who because of that, remain more or less prisoners of their past."
Machorka-Muff (1962, 18’) followed by Not Reconciled or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules (1954-65, 52’), by Straub and Huillet.
