Between figurative and abstract art, this composition with vibrating lines transcribes the liberating dynamic of movement.
Martin Ramirez left Mexico for California at the age of 30. Confronted with isolation and the exhausting work of a miner, his health deteriorated rapidly. He was declared schizophrenic and was definitively interned in 1931. At this point, he began to create large drawings with mixtures he made himself on different pieces of paper he collected and meticulously assembled. Trains were one of his favourite subjects for escaping his confinement. Here, he gives life to a vehicle passing at high speed from one tunnel to another on rails that flout straight lines on a journey to a limitless horizon.
