Studio-bar
1930
In 1926-1927 the sculptor brothers Jan and Joël Martel had a house built at 10, rue Mallet-Stevens in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, providing a studio and three apartments. In one of the rooms of Jan Martel’s 75 m2 apartment was this Studio-Bar, combining cupboards, shelves and drawers with a glass-cupboard with sliding mirror doors whose interior is painted in blue, cream and red. Originally fitted with a hinged tabletop, visible in Thérèse Bonney’s photograph, this outstanding piece confirms Charlotte Perriand’s creative independence as a designer.
