1990 - 1991
Following the Renault series and a number of works playing on the relationships between the forms and proportions of bands and black, white or coloured borders, the early 1980s saw Martin Barré re-engage with figures, using truncated right triangles and trapezia, notably in the four consecutive series 89-90, 90-91, 91 and 92. The work 90-91-96 x 112 C is typical in its geometric composition and in the play of hot and cold colours employed “to better affirm the time”. Martin Barré’s distinctive work has today been rediscovered by a new generation of painters, among them Wade Guyton and R.H. Quaytman.
