Nature morte au faisan
1932
The work of the Italian painter and poet Filipo De Pisis, simultaneously instinctive and intimate, was marked by a kind of attachment to classicism. As with this still life, his work was on a different wavelength from the various forms of Realism at the time. The technique and materiality of his painting revealed his deep admiration for Manet, while his sensibility and aesthetic took him closer to De Chirico and Surrealism.
