Ernest T. is a pseudonym adopted by the artist, who chose anonymity as a means to highlight the absurdities of the art world and its star system. Taking a conceptual approach, he appropriates the imagery of key works in the history of art, as in this pastiche of a work by the pioneering abstractionist Piet Mondrian. His works bring to the fore the reactions of art lovers who first find themselves lost in wonder in front of his paintings only to ignore them once they have discovered that they are the work of a much less famous contemporary artist. With an acute eye for irony, Ernest T. explores the ideas of criteria of taste and of the critical relevance of a period.
