"I want to make works that change as nature changes. Rather than a composition or a shape, for me, a modern work is above all a metamorphosis." (Cruz-Diez)
Shortly before his installation in Paris in 1960, Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez developed his series of works called Physichromies : paintings that change according to the ambient light and the viewer's movement. These "light traps" are based on a space where different colour patterns interact. These interferences confer an immaterial aspect to the colour which, in Physichromie 680, shifts imperceptibly from purple to different hues of green.
