The images of scars and repairs which are projected raise questions about the notions of cultural alienation and the search for identity.
Since the beginning of the 2000s, Kader Attia has researched the theme of reparation. During his travels in Africa and his visits to large western museum storages, he noticed that people in Africa had the habit of "repairing" broken objects or masks, but that these were never inventoried or exhibited in museums. Attia questioned these "rules dictated by the West" by confronting images of these repaired objects with images of "Gueules cassées" (disfigured soldiers) from World War I.
