Adapted from Arnold Schoenberg's unfinished opera, first performed in 1954, three years after the composer's death, Moses and Aaron stages the relationship between these two enemy brothers at the moment when God calls the former to be his spokesman to liberate the people. The film was shot in direct sound in the Roman amphitheatre of Alba Fucens, in Abruzzi.
