Bribes de corps
1973
Born in Beirut in 1931, Huguette Caland, together with Shafic Abboud and Etel Adnan, belongs to a generation of artists who shaped the artistic identity of their country. In the late Sixties, she began to paint body parts with humour and sensuality, enlarging and expanding them to produce quasi-abstract forms. Lively colours construct curved shapes broken up by points or slits, revealing the erotic side of an abstract composition. After a long period in Paris, between 1970 and 1987, she settled in Venice, California.
