In his work the British artist Jonathan Monk adopts the practices and aesthetics of Conceptual Art, which he re-examines with humour, incorporating autobiographical elements. For the series Keep Still, he collected photographs of anonymous groups. Above the head of each figure he fixed a letter, so as to compose the titles of works by artists of the 1960s and ’70s, such as Robert Barry (Closed Gallery) or Sol LeWitt (Pyramid). Behind this association of anonymous with avant-garde figures lies the desire to showcase artists admired as members of a group or even a family from which Monk would claim descent.
