Remainder VII
(Vestige VII)
2009
Known first of all as a writer, Matias Faldbakken has developed an aesthetic of vandalism and revolt, denouncing the absurdity of capital and the relationship of art to market since the 2000s. Burnt vehicles, accumulations of spirit bottles, of revolver cartridges, or the tiled walls and rubbed-out graffiti of Remainder VII are the desolate landscapes in which he acts. Having once made direct reference to underground culture, he now draws his vocabulary from an aesthetic of the everyday, reusing such things as cardboard boxes, metal cupboards, fridges, exhaust pipes and more.
