Candy Darling, Christine Kaufmann et Magdalena Montezuma, “La Mort de Maria Malibran” de Werner Schroeter, 1971

Werner Schroeter is a lone star of new German cinema who emerged in the late sixties at the same time as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Wim Wenders, and shone for forty years with a strange and sumptuous flame, in some thirty films. A great lover of music, poetry and theatre, he became a film maker and producer through his passion for the texts, the music and above all the divas and actresses who fascinated him, Maria Callas, Magdalena Montezuma, Carole Bouquet, Isabelle Huppert, Ingrid Caven and Bulle Ogier. The Centre Pompidou is offering a very complete retrospective of his work in the presence of a number of guests, actors, collaborators and critics. Several films will be screened in restored versions, alongside some rarities and some never seen before.
