L'Ambition
vers 1926
"l long ago saw everything and in nature there is only one thing that counts for me, that is the sun". (Picabia)
ln 1925 Picabia made a decisive change in his living conditions and the style of his painting when he moved to Mougins, near Cannes, in the south of France. L'Ambition [Ambition] is part of a group of drawings shown in Picabia's first exhibition in Cannes at the Cercle Nautique [Water Sports Circle] in 1927, in the midst of tens of drawings from the Espagnoles (Spanish Women) series. As ever with the artist, the work is a testament to the secret reassembling of exogenous forms [here, a catalogue of ancient statues], leading to an unstable scene with acrobats and putti.
